Mediation Psychology Engages With Businesses In Brazil

I have recently returned from Sao Paolo and Rio de Janeiro where I gave three  talks on the psychology of conflict and mediation.  The events were superbly organised by Maria Fernanda Pecora Gedeon and Amanda Federico Lopes Fernandes, both of Gouvêa Vieira Advogados.  They also arranged an excellent lunch meeting with Nadia de Araujo, Professor of Private International Law at the Rio de Janeiro University.

The first talk was at the Bar Council seminar in Sao Paolo, in which I shared the platform with Diego Faleck, a brilliant young mediator from Sao Paolo, I outlined the UK experience of promoting mediation to a resistant legal profession and to a hesitant public.

The second talk was given to the Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation (CAM) in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce of Brazil and Canada (CCBC) in Sao Paolo.  This concentrated on the psychology of conflict generally, and highlighted the psychological strategies adopted by people in conflict.

The third talk was  to a significant Conference organised by CBMA, the Brazil Chamber of Mediation and Arbitration, and FIRJAN, the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro.  The conference was well attended, taking up both the Auditorium and an overflow room at the headquarters of CBMA and FIRJAN in Rio, and the talk, again on the psychology of disputes, was well received.
